What’s with Jericho?

Eagle and Child

The Eagle & Child – Public House – Jericho

We’re named after the Jericho district of Oxford, England where we have our headquarters.

Jericho is where Lyra began her journey in His Dark Materials. It’s where Jude the Obscure drank too much. It’s where Inspector Morse has tidied away many a corpse. We’re three hundred yards from the Eagle & Child, where CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien used to imagine their fictional worlds. And (we’re writers too, remember) it’s where a certain Fiona Griffiths looked out at a rope swing hanging over a canal and was ‘reminded, ‘for some reason, of an uncompleted suicide.’

Oh, and these pencil drawings? They’re the work of Stephanie Vendryes, part of our super-excellent customer service team. She’s good, isn’t she?
